These little puppies are my favorite to just go out and
shoot all day. I have literally dropped thousands of rounds from these
twin Cimarron Model P’s. A wile ago I found myself reaching my high
water mark at the range. With the furthest I could shoot the M1 being
250 yards I simply was unable to further improve my aim or challenge
myself to a further distance. I either had to find a bigger place to
shoot or look for another challenge. That’s where the Single Action
Shooting came in.
While at my favorite gun shop,
Atlantic Guns, I saw a video
they were playing on Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS). It looked like a
total blast. (Pun intended) I started talking to them and soon found
myself digging in both heals and buying the set of Cimarron Model P’s to
start. It’s a long road and if your looking for some of the most pure
fun you can have shooting this is it. Single Action Shooting (SAS) or
CAS are about the same thing. Just Look them up in your area and see
what is available to you. Stop in a t a shoot and I am willing to bet
there will be several friendly folk ready to let you try out their guns
and get you going. Its just that friendly of a group.
Be prepared, once you get a taste for SAS your going to
want to jump in fast. It gets costly fast. Lets start with the basics.
You will need two single action revolvers that meet The
Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) standards. Anywhere from $600 on up. Your going to need a SASS
approved lever action rifle. Starting in the $450 range for a beat up
used one and going up up up. And a Shotgun. Again it must be SASS
approved. See their sites for the details on what the qualifications are
but a general rule is that if it was avail back in the old west days its
good if not its bad. Seriously go out and get into it. Its really fun
and the friendliest group of shooters you will ever find.
In the competitions I shoot with one gun at a time but
on my own I go one in each hand. Its just too much. I can do this for
hours. Sure maybe Im shooting the berm half the time but Im getting
better every time I go out and maybe one day soon I can try it in
competition. Maybe.
Remember the motto of the SASS shooter. “Its not how
good you shoot but how good you look shooting.”
See ya on the range.
This is a great video of what you will be doing.
Tell me this is not fun looking.
Note This is not me or anyone I know. Just a
great publicly posted video.
